looking for phone company recommendations

Anybody have a (landline long-distance) phone company that they like? I recently discovered that the long distance company that we’ve been using has been treating us badly (hint: grandfathering people into their plans only makes sense if their old plan is better than the plans new customers get), so we’re shopping around.

When I had such a thing (I’m on VoIP now), I liked Working Assets a lot. They also donate money to causes I happen to like, though others might not. I still have their phonecard as a backup in case I’m in places where my cell phone doesn’t work.

Unfortunately, Working Assets is the company that we’re leaving…

How reliable is your IP service? There might be something to be said for VoIP only: lets you use regular (non-cell phones) and price. My only concern would be you don’t have a cell phone for any outages. We have our second line on Packet 8.

Yeah, that’s a thought. I’m certainly thinking that I’ll use Skype the next time I have to do international calls, if I don’t get a regular service that provides those at a reasonable rate…
